Rf Remote Front Row Mac Only Review

Works quite well and does what it says it is supposed to do. I do have an issue that might be just with my model computer. When I put the computer to sleep using the remote control, a while later it is asleep with the fans racing. I have tried it several times to make sure it is just happening from the remote and sad to say the results were correct. BTW I have a dual G5 2.0 running the lastest Leopard OS 10.5.3. Even though I can't put the computer to sleep using the product without issues the positive side is I can control all my media from anywhere in the room and I was waiting a long time for someone to finally come out with this product for computers without remotes. It is also likely that the problem might be with Leopard as the remote was made before the release of this OS. Even with the problem I give it a high rating.

The RF Remote for Front Row is a sleek and powerful RF remote control designed specifically for use with Apple's Front Row multimedia software. It provides more range, convenience and flexibility than infrared remotes. The RF Remote for Front Row provides a range of 60 feet or more (about twice the distance of infrared remotes).Unlike an infrared remote, this RF remote does not require line of sight to the receiver. This allows you to manage Front Row from more areas within the room or even from other areas of your house.Since the RF signal works through walls and furniture, you have more flexibility in locating the Macintosh that will be used to run Front Row. For example, you can place a Mac mini inside an entertainment center cabinet or within an AV closet and still easily control Front Row with the remote.

It just works! - Sumpeople Callme -
This is a great remote for use with older macs that cannot take input from the Apple remotes. Very simple to setup, and it works flawlessly to control Front Row. The range is good although the part about it working through walls is not accurate. I am using this on a G5 that is sitting next to my entertainment center, so I have strategically placed an artificial plant in front of it. At times the remote doesn't work because of the plant, so I am doubtful it would work through walls.br /br /Overall a good remote.

good but still a bit confused - Todd Katz - San Francisco area
I bought this unit to control Front Row running on an Intel Mac Mini. Output is through a TOSLink cable to digital input on my amp. I purchased this because the Mac Mini is behind the wall and the Macintosh remote wouldn't find its way through the wall.br /br /The RF Remote Front Row actually does work. The 60-foot claim is certainly not accurate in my case but going through a wall with a certain amount of electronics on both sides, I'm able to use the remote reliably at about 6 (six) feet. Hopefully you'll get better results. br /br /I also found that it was not possible to use the volume controls because Front Row does not support volume adjustment for digital output. The audiophiles indicate that this is done on purpose but that really does not explain why I-tunes can be controlled by the IPhone Remote App but not Front Row. br /br /The solution I found -- and it is a good one -- was to use the freeware Soundflower in conjunction with their companion application Soundflowerbed. Their documentation is fine so I won't go into the ins and outs of it other than to say that it was not difficult to install or set up. Now I have volume control of both I-Tunes and Front Row using the RF Remote Front Row. Very nice!br /br /[...]
